“MORAL GROUND”

(C. DeCracken)

[m.b. Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)]

The power to choose. Consider the choices you have made in the past and when they lead you astray. Faced in times of opposition will lead to your salvation, while often the easy way will lead only to temptation. Think of consequences. Cherish your power to choose the righteous path

[music starts]

[m.b. Saw III] The rules have been made very clear. You need to abide by those rules

[m.b. Living Death] It’s not right! It’s not right!

[m.b. In the Mouth of Madness] Sporadic riots continue to hit eastern cities

[m.b. Hellraiser 6] Good and bad

[m.b. Living Death] It’s not right! It’s not right!

[m.b. Hellraiser 5] Who’s to say what’s right and what’s wrong?

[m.b. Casualties of War] This isn’t right. We ain’t supposed to be doing this!

[m.b. In the Mouth of Madness] Affecting history with their sadistic wickedness

[m.b. The Thirst: Blood War]

I can’t believe you would do this to me. You lied to me

What do you want me to say? You want me to say that I’m sorry? I’m sorry… that you caught me, but I’m really not sorry that I did it. I mean, you want the truth? I do what feels good. That’s it. Being with you felt good. Being with that chick felt good. Because, at the end of the day, we’re just animals doing what feels good

[m.b. Hellraiser 5]

I believe in loyalty, fidelity. I understand the concept. My parents have been married for forty years. But I live in a different world. I know this would kill her, but if she doesn’t know, if doing this keeps me coming back, then who’s to say what’s right and what’s wrong?

[s.b. Dexter ep. 1] I could never do that. Never, ever

Why?

Because I have standards

[m.b. The Running Man] Come on, everybody does it

[m.b. Night of the Living Dead (1990)] No good

[m.b. The Running Man] Everybody does it

[m.b. Night of the Living Dead (1990)] No good!

[m.b. Hellraiser 5]

Ah, the eternal refrain of humanity, pleading ignorance, begging for mercy, “Please, help me, I don’t understand.” This is the life you chose. All the people you hurt, all the appetites you indulged. You have destroyed your own innocence! You are your own king, and this is the Hell you have created for yourself

(faded)

[m.b. The Keeper] Think about all the good you could do!

[m.b. Casualties of War] Maybe we got to be extra careful about the things we do, because maybe it matters more than we even know

[m.b. In the Mouth of Madness] Things must be getting pretty bad out there to bring you fellas in

[m.b. In the Mouth of Madness] It will get worse out there

[m.b. Hellraiser 5]

I just… I just think there are some lines you set, and you just don’t cross them, period. Otherwise, you just keep crossing them, one after another, you know, until you’re just… lost

[s.b. Spawn ep. 7] I never thought it would come to this

[m.b. In the Mouth of Madness] It’s spreading out there, isn’t it?

[s.b. Dexter ep.  15] Is that my long dormant conscience talking?

[m.b. In the Mouth of Madness]

Originally there was a church, but the black church swallowed up the old sanctuary the way it has swallowed our minds. Now there is nothing left of what was once here except the mosaic of our Lord and Savior. Some believe the old sanctuary still exists somewhere trapped inside the evil edifice. Its primeval inhabitants were a murderous race of creatures whose vile existence contaminated time itself, affecting history with their sadistic wickedness

[m.b. The Wisdom of Crocodiles]

Good and evil. Evil isn’t just malice, isn’t just murder and rape and massacre. Before everything, the Devil is the Father of Lies. The lies you tell; the truth you don’t tell. Everything hidden is theft. Everything reserved from those we love is fraud. And there’s always something, isn’t there? What everyone wants is for evil people to be off somewhere else insidiously committing evil deeds; then, they can be separated from ordinary men and women and destroyed. But the line that separates good and evil cuts through every human heart. Who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?

[m.b. Heavy Metal] Sacrifice yourself

[m.b. Heavy Metal] Sacrifice yourself

[m.b. Heavy Metal] Sacrifice yourself

[m.b. Omega Doom] It came into my conscience

[m.b. Dominion]

No one believed it was true

No. No one wanted to believe it was true. It’s so much easier to believe that evil is random or an ogre, and not that it’s a human condition

[m.b. Falling Down] I’m the bad guy?

[m.b. Darkman] I realized the man inside was… wrong… a monster

[m.b. Falling Down] I’m the bad guy?

[m.b. Dominion] …yes!

[m.b. Darkman] wrong… a monster

[m.b. Children of the Corn 6]

My truth is something else. Something dark, unknowable... hideous and corrupt. It lives under the cracked asphalt and the endless rows of corn. And now it lives in me

[m.b. Hellraiser 6] Sounds like you’re remembering more and more, and that’s a good thing. Maybe you’re not the angel that you thought you were

[m.b. Hellraiser 6]  Good and bad. Honest and dishonest. Righteous and evil. That’s how we’re all made. It’s just a question of how much of each

[m.b. Omega Doom] Maybe I can make them understand the error of their ways

[m.b. Casualties of War]

We’re getting it backwards, man. Just because each of us might at any second be blown away, everybody’s acting like we can just do anything, man, and it don’t matter what we do. But I’m thinking maybe it’s the other way around. Maybe the main thing is just the opposite. Because we might be dead in the next split second, maybe we gotta be extra careful about the things we do, because maybe it matters more… maybe it matters more than we even know

[m.b. Hellraiser 4] In this game, we show ourselves as we really are!

[s.b. Meshuggah Suffer in Truth] Suffer in truth. Suffer in truth. Suffer in truthhh!

[m.b. Casualties of War] When I came here today, I got remorse

[m.b. Hellraiser 5]

I lived in a world of facts, of a reality that I thought I understood. I believed I was the center of the design, and I was certain that I knew all the answers. But now I faced the truth about what I’ve done to hurt those around me and, in hurting others, what I’ve done to myself. I’ve confronted my own demons, and now the only thing I know for certain is that I will live with them forever.

[s.b. Spawn ep. 15]

Yes, he did choose a man whose heart was dark, but now inside you there is some good. You have to bury the man you once were because he’s damned! Become a new man, a better man!

[s.b. X-Men Obsession]

I thank you for this moment. You made me understand. You showed me I could choose. You made me feel. You helped me know what I have to do

(faded)

[m.b. Casualties of War] This isn’t right

[s.b. Dexer 19] I have a conscience!

[m.b. Platoon] The enemy was in us

[s.b. Meshuggah Suffer in Truth] Suffer in truth. Suffer in truthhh!

[s.b. Spawn ep. ] I can show you how to break the curse

[m.b. X-Men Origins: Wolverine] But first we’re gonna have to destroy you

[Instruments fade]

[m.b. Saw II] You must know death in order to be reborn

[synthesizers and samples only]

[electrical and powertool samples]

[X-Men Origins: Wolverine]

Body temperature one-zero-eight and rising

Why is he thrashing like that? Why isn’t he sedated?

Heart rate one-ninety, one-ninety-five

Will he survive this?

I don’t know

Two-hundred

Heart rate well beyond maximum

Blood pressure?

Two sixty over one eighty and rising

He can make it

Well I guess he can die

[flatline sample]

[weak heartbeat sample]

[rising heartbeat sample]

heart rate rising

procedure completed

we did it

we did it

[all instruments fade in]

[m.b. Omega Doom] We have reprogrammed you. Now you can clearly see which missions are good and bad

[s.b. Spawn ep. 17] You’re not like the others. There is something good inside you

[s.b. Dexter] I have a conscience!

I have standards

I have a conscience!

I have standards

A noble cause

[s.b. Dexter ep. 1] I could never do that. Not like you. Never. Ever

Why?

Because I have standards

[Dexter ep. 15] Is that my long, dormant conscience talking?

[Dexer ep. 19] But now... now I think you got a conscience.

Of course I have a conscience!

[Dexter ep. 19] The idea of a code was a grand idea, a noble cause

[m.b. Hannibal]

After giving everything you’ve got, it resents you. Why is that, do you think? Why are you so resented? You serve the idea of order; they don’t. You believe in the oath you took; they don’t. You feel it is your duty to protect the sheep; they don’t. They don’t like you because you’re not like them. They hate you and they envy you… your grasp of right and wrong… your courage and incorruptibility.  They’re weak and believe in nothing

[m.b. Omega Doom] His mind, it’s controlled by something

What?

Purpose

[m.b. Casualties of War]

Do it!

Don’t do it!

Do it!

Don’t do it!

[m.b. Platoon]

The enemy was in us, fighting for "possession of my soul." Those of us who did make it have an obligation to build again, to teach to others what we know, and to try, with what's left of our lives, to find a goodness and a meaning to this life

[m.b. Hellraiser 6]  Good and bad

[m.b. Living Death] It’s not right!

[m.b. Casualties of War] This isn’t right

[m.b. Hellraiser 6]  Honest and dishonest

[m.b. Omega Doom] I promise to use it to make the world a better place

[s.b. Spawn ep. 15] A man whose heart was dark

[Hellraiser 6]  Righteous and evil

[Hellraiser 5] Who’s to say what’s right and what’s wrong?

[Dexter ep. 1] I have standards

[m.b. In the Mouth of Madness] Affecting history with their sadistic wickedness

[s.b. Dexter ep. 19] The idea of a code, a grand idea, a noble cause

[m.b. Hellraiser 6]  Good and bad. Honest and dishonest. Righteous and evil. That’s how we’re all made. It’s just a question of how much of each

[guitars and synths only]

[s.b. Spawn ep. 18]

And what are you willing to do?

I pledge everything I own, everything I have left, my heart included. I want my humanity back

[music stops]

[m.b. Saw III] The rules have been made very  clear. [pause] You need to abide by those rules
